ANNOUNCING THE 2016 WINNER!

Congratulations to Hannes Lung, product design student from Estonia and the brains behind WatchYourself – a wrist-worn gadget that scans food straight off the supermarket shelf and projects recipes into the palm of your hand, an innovation to simplify shopping and inspire healthier eating.

“Engagement in the very first Electrolux Ideas Lab has been fantastic and has offered Electrolux an outstanding opportunity to tap into creative minds around the world for inspiration for healthier eating and life styles. The winning concept charmed us with its holistic approach; the creator was able to step into the shoes of consumers and solve challenges within food shopping and managing a busy family lifestyle. WatchYourself is something every busy parent would love to have.”

THE WINNER OF ELECTROLUX IDEAS LAB 2016 - WATCHYOURSELF

It can be tricky to navigate supermarket shelves when making sure your food choices are healthy. From reading the ingredients to educating yourself on nutrition, a quick visit to the shop can soon turn into a lengthy task. But, what if the nutritional information could be analysed as soon you pick a product from the shelf? Our wristwatch can solve this problem, using a photo eye to recognise the item you’re holding. Once the product has been discovered, the watch will provide a red, yellow or green indicator light to state whether it will fit into your diet and lifestyle. Users will need to enter their weekly meals and exercise regimes into the smartwatch beforehand, and they will also gain access to recipes that suit your lifestyle. To do this, the watch would use your hand as a screen, projecting the recipe directly onto skin. It will also connect to the rest of your family, allowing them to vote for their favourite meal. An LED indicator on the watch will help you choose when your ingredients are at their best quality, and once cooking you family will receive a notification stating when dinner will be server. Not only does the smartwatch provide a comfortable cooking experience, but simplifying the shopping process will also lead to more people choosing healthier meals.
